Players create and name their own spells by attaching modifiers to four basic spell types. Each spell type has around 15 modifiers that are collected during the course of the campaign, with some being locked behind optional puzzles or in secret areas. As new modifiers are collected, the player can create new versions of spells to exploit an enemy's weakness or to gain access to new areas. The spell crafting system can be accessed at any time, even during combat. Spells can have custom names and the player can switch between spells in real-time or through a pause menu. All spells consume mana when cast; the more modifiers that are attached to a spell, the more mana it will cost. Players can upgrade their mana reserves by defeating bosses or by solving secret puzzles.</p>
