<h2>Overview</h2><p>Hammerwatch is a 2D high-fantasy top-down action-RPG developed and published digitally by <a href="/crackshell/3010-9126/" data-ref-id="3010-9126">Crackshell</a> for the <a href="/pc/3045-94/" data-ref-id="3045-94">PC</a>, <a href="/mac/3045-17/" data-ref-id="3045-17">Mac</a>, and <a href="/linux/3045-152/" data-ref-id="3045-152">Linux</a> on August 12, 2013. It was later ported by <a href="/blitworks/3010-9146/" data-ref-id="3010-9146">Blitworks</a> as a digital release for the <a href="/nintendo-switch/3045-157/" data-ref-id="3045-157">Nintendo Switch</a> (on December 14, 2017), <a href="/xbox-one/3045-145/" data-ref-id="3045-145">Xbox One</a> (on December 15, 2017), and <a href="/playstation-4/3045-146/" data-ref-id="3045-146">PlayStation 4</a> (on December 19, 2017).</p><p>Combining the simplistic multiplayer dungeon-based gameplay of the <a href="/gauntlet/3025-230/" data-ref-id="3025-230">Gauntlet</a> series with action RPGs similar to <a href="/diablo/3025-148/" data-ref-id="3025-148">Diablo</a>, up to four players (online or offline) can traverse up the eponymous Castle Hammerwatch to slay the dragon and earn riches.</p><p>Along with <a href="/mods/3015-417/" data-ref-id="3015-417">modding</a> support (utilizing <a href="/steam-workshop/3015-7353/" data-ref-id="3015-7353">Steam Workshop</a> for distribution), the game received a free expansion on September 16, 2014. Known as Temple of the Sun, it features a new campaign of the same name (where players traverse a desert).</p><p>A sequel, titled Heroes of Hammerwatch, is in development.
