<h2>Overview</h2><p>Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is an exploration-heavy action platformer in the <a href="/shantae/3025-1493/" data-ref-id="3025-1493" data-mce-href="/shantae/3025-1493/">Shantae</a> series, developed and published by <a href="/wayforward-technologies/3010-2294/" data-ref-id="3010-2294" data-mce-href="/wayforward-technologies/3010-2294/">WayForward</a> for the <a href="/wii-u/3045-139/" data-ref-id="3045-139" data-mce-href="/wii-u/3045-139/">Nintendo Wii U</a> and <a href="/nintendo-3ds-eshop/3045-138/" data-ref-id="3045-138" data-mce-href="/nintendo-3ds-eshop/3045-138/">Nintendo 3DS</a>. The game was revealed via the November 2012 Nintendo Power and was released digitally on the 3DS eShop in October of 2014. It was later added to the <a href="/steam/3015-718/" data-ref-id="3015-718" data-mce-href="/steam/3015-718/">Steam</a> store in April 2015, joining its immediate predecessor <a href="/shantae-riskys-revenge/3030-28141/" data-ref-id="3030-28141" data-mce-href="/shantae-riskys-revenge/3030-28141/">Shantae: Risky's Revenge</a> on the digital storefront.</p><p>The story concerns a mutiny by <a href="/risky-boots/3005-10422/" data-ref-id="3005-10422" data-mce-href="/risky-boots/3005-10422/">Risky Boots's</a> minions. The minions quest to resurrect Risky's mentor, the Pirate Master, and Risky reluctantly goes to her nemesis <a href="/shantae/3005-10421/" data-ref-id="3005-10421" data-mce-href="/shantae/3005-10421/">Shantae</a> for help. Because Shantae was turned into a regular human at the end of Shantae: Risky's Revenge, the previous game chronologically, she is required to collect pirate items to help her progress, and slowly recovers the magic that was taken from her after defeating bosses.</p>
